Braves Front Office Executives

Terry McGuirk – is Chairman & CEO of Braves Holdings, LLC, the parent company of the Atlanta Braves and Braves Development Company. In his role as Chairman and Control Person of the Atlanta Braves, McGuirk maintains executive oversight of all aspects of the Braves franchise including all team and player personnel operations, business operations, Truist Park and representation of the Braves at Major League Baseball ownership meetings. McGuirk is also the Chairman of Braves Development Company, the Braves real estate development project that owns and operates The Battery Atlanta mixed-use development adjacent to Truist Park. In 2021, McGuirk oversaw the holistic organizational efforts that culminated in the Braves' fourth World Series title.

McGuirk previously spent 35 years at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS). He was elected to the TBS, Inc. board of directors in July 1987. Concurrently, McGuirk was president of Turner Sports where, during his tenure, he was instrumental in securing coverage of the Olympics for cable television for the first time and oversaw the resurgence of the winningest team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves. As executive vice president, McGuirk served as TBS, Inc.’s second in command from 1991 to 1996. When TBS, Inc. merged with Time Warner Inc. in 1996, he succeeded R.E. (Ted) Turner as chairman, president and CEO.

He served as chairman and chief executive officer of the company until March 2001. From that point through December 2003, McGuirk was vice chairman of Turner Broadcasting System Inc., along with being chief executive officer of the company owned Atlanta sports teams, including the Major League Baseball Braves, the National Basketball Association Hawks and the National Hockey League Thrashers.

McGuirk has served on the board of many cable industry-related groups and the International Olympic Committee’s Radio and Television Commission. He was the 1989 recipient of the NCTA Vanguard Award for Young Leadership and was inducted into the fellowship of Cable Television Pioneers at the 1996 NCTA Convention.

McGuirk is a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American history from Middlebury College.

McGuirk is on the MLB Executive Council and is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Major League Baseball's Business and Media Committee, the successor to MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM). He also serves on the MLB Ownership Committee. McGuirk is the chairman of the newly formed Major League Baseball Media Committee.

President and chief executive officer Derek Schiller manages all business functions of the front office. Schiller oversees all business departments such as corporate partnerships, ticket sales, broadcasting, licensing and merchandising, and concessions; service-driven departments including client services, guest services, ticketing, special events, alumni relations, ballpark tours, baseball and corporate communications, community relations, and all other ballpark operations departments. As part of his role, Schiller sets the strategic vision for the Atlanta Braves business, guides the Braves brand, champions innovation across all areas of the business and manages the wide array of Braves talented employees.

As part of the Braves’ executive leadership team, Schiller was instrumental in securing plans for Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, and played a pivotal role throughout the design and execution phases of the project. Schiller and the executive team have guided the philosophy behind The Battery Atlanta to ensure a seamless integration with Truist Park, in both an aesthetic and strategic capacity. In conjunction with Braves Chairman Terry McGuirk, Schiller has been a key factor in guiding the front office to further increase sales and visibility, improve customer service and become an industry leader in the business of professional sports. Under Schiller’s direction, the Braves have also introduced many technical developments including digital ticketing, variable and dynamic pricing, and a Customer Relationship Management system that has enhanced customer service and data management for both corporate partners and ticket holders.

Schiller joined the Braves in November 2003 as senior vice president of sales and marketing and was promoted to executive vice president of sales and marketing in August 2007. He came to the Braves after serving as vice president of sales and marketing for the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team since 1998. In that position, he led the development of the Thrashers as an expansion franchise in the National Hockey League, which included the management of all business operations and marketing. Schiller also previously served as vice president of business development for the New York Yankees and the executive director of Atlanta’s International Sports Plaza (ISP).

Schiller earned a degree in engineering from Vanderbilt University. He is a board member of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Atlanta Sports Council, and the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, and is serving on the Truist Atlanta Advisory Council. He also currently serves on various MLB committees.

Mike Plant oversees the Braves real estate and development holdings including The Battery Atlanta, its development and project management teams, design, financing, construction and leasing activities. Braves and Battery security, life safety, parking and government relations are all consolidated under Plant’s leadership. He also works with key Braves executives managing all Minor League Team operations and the new Spring Training complex in North Port, Florida.

As part of the Braves executive leadership team, Plant was instrumental in the Braves’ efforts to secure and plan Truist Park and the adjacent mixed-use development, The Battery Atlanta, which opened in Cobb County in April 2017. The creative and innovative approach Plant led since the project’s inception has been recognized as a leading example of how to structure a successful Public/Private partnership now generating substantial returns for multiple government entities.

Plant joined the Braves in November 2003 after having served as executive vice president of Turner Sports since February 2002. In that position, he was in charge of the day-to-day operations of the division, a $500-million acquisition, promotion and production company that at the time broadcast approximately 1,200 hours of sports programming on various Turner networks.

Plant was president of Ted Turner’s multi-sport event, The Goodwill Games, and vice president of events for Turner Sports. Prior to joining Turner Sports, Plant was president of Medalist Sports, a full-service sports marketing company he founded in 1988. In addition, Plant previously served as associate executive director of the United States Cycling Federation and the executive director of the Canoe and Kayak Team.

Plant was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Speedskating team in Lake Placid, NY, and a six-time member of the U.S. World Championship speedskating teams. Since 1980, he has been appointed to numerous committees and boards for the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), U.S. Speedskating, International Cycling Federation, and USA Cycling.

Alex Anthopoulos joined the Braves in November 2017 as the executive vice president and general manager. In February 2020, Anthopoulos was promoted to president, baseball operations and general manager, and received a contract extension.

The Braves won the 2021 World Series under his guidance and have won the National League East in each of his first five seasons leading Atlanta's baseball operations department.

Anthopoulos, who reports to Chairman Terry McGuirk, oversees all aspects of the club’s baseball operations. He came to the Braves after spending the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ vice president of baseball operations. He joined the Dodgers in January 2016 following six seasons as the Toronto Blue Jays’ general manager, which culminated in an American League East title in 2015 to snap Toronto’s 22-year postseason drought.

He was named Baseball America's Executive of the Year in 2022.

Anthopoulos attended Lower Canada College and Marianopolis College before majoring in economics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Greg Heller has served as legal counsel to the Braves since 2000. As Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Heller’s responsibilities and duties include providing guidance and counsel on baseball operations matters, sales and marketing, broadcasting, stadium and business operations, intellectual property, corporate governance, legislative affairs, employment and litigation.  Heller also has ultimate oversight for all legal matters related Truist Park, The Battery Atlanta and the Braves’ spring training facility, CoolToday Park, and had ultimate oversight for all legal matters related to the negotiation, planning and development of all three projects for the Braves organization.

Prior to serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of the Braves, Heller spent nearly seven (7) years with the TBS sports legal group which included the Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Thrashers, Philips Arena, the Goodwill Games, the Turner Sports television group (and its NBA, NASCAR, PGA, British Open and MLB properties), and the Turner Sports new media group (and its NASCAR, PGA and PGA TOUR and ACC Select properties).  Mr. Heller was in private practice with national law firms in Atlanta and Chicago prior to his time with the Braves and Turner Sports.

Mr. Heller is a cum laude graduate of Indiana University with a degree in sports marketing/management and holds a J.D. degree from Marquette University Law School.  Mr. Heller serves on advisory boards at Marquette University Law School, Indiana University, Kennesaw State University and Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. 

Jill Robinson joined the Braves in April of 2018 as chief financial officer and executive vice president.

In her role, Robinson oversees the Braves’ entire accounting, finance, and information technology operations. Robinson also manages the Braves’ financial interests in The Battery Atlanta, the world-class mixed used real estate development located around Truist Park.

Prior to joining the Braves, Robinson worked for McKesson Corporation for 16 years in both San Francisco, Calif., and Atlanta, Ga., serving in a variety of roles for the Fortune 500 company. At the time of her departure, Robinson was the chief financial officer and senior vice president for McKesson Technology Solutions, a $3 billion healthcare technology company.

Robinson began her professional career with Deloitte & Touche before serving as Controller for Tambourine, Inc., an independent record label.

A native of Naperville, IL, Robinson graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in accountancy in 1992. She became a certified public accountant in November of that year.

Jill currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Atlanta CFO Forum, and is also on the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of ArtsNow, and the Southeast Board of Trustees for the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Chip Moore assists the Braves’ executive board with long-term planning and oversees the club’s minor league affiliates, spring training facility and Florida operations. Moore spent nine years (2009- 17) as the Braves’ chief financial officer, after spending 12 seasons (1997-2008) as senior vice president and controller. He was named to his current position on February 5, 2018.

Moore was instrumental in the Braves’ efforts to secure Truist Park and the club’s mixed-use development, The Battery Atlanta, both of which opened in 2017. He has long been a leader in the business side of the Braves Minor League ownership. Over the past 25 years, Moore led the Braves finance and accounting function and played a key role in Braves successes both on and off the field. This included managing financial tasks associated with Braves postseason runs, MLB’s 2000 All-Star Game in Atlanta and the many challenges associated with the moves from Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium to Turner Field and finally to Truist Park.

Moore graduated from Oglethorpe University in 1985 with a degree in business administration majoring in accounting. Moore serves on the Board of Directors and as treasurer for the Atlanta Braves Foundation. He serves on the Minor League Baseball Board of Trustees and is also on the Board of Directors and serves as vice president of the South Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

DeRetta Rhodes, Ph.D. is the Executive Vice President & Chief Culture Officer of the Atlanta Braves, overseeing people capital initiatives, communications and community affairs for the Braves, The Battery Atlanta and team’s Spring Training facility operations.

Prior to joining the Braves, Rhodes was the Executive Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Vice President of Human Resources at First Data, Vice President of Human Resources for Turner Broadcasting and held leadership positions at Ernst & Young, ADP, HomeGrocer.com and YUM Brand.

Rhodes received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, her master’s in business administration from Clark Atlanta University, and her Ph.D. in adult education from the University of Georgia. 

Rhodes completed her Ted Talk (TEDxUGA) in 2018 and has been recognized as 100 Women of Influence (2020, 2021, 2022) by Atlanta Business Chronicle, and National Diversity & Leadership Top 100 HR Professionals (2022), to name a few.

She serves on several boards such as Executive Board Member of the Atlanta Braves Foundation, Vice Chair of Goodwill of North Georgia, Board Chair of 21st Century Leaders and Trustee Member, Governing Board Member and HR & Compensation Chair of the Woodruff Arts Center, to name a few.

Jeremy Strife is the Executive Vice President of Development for the Atlanta Braves where he leads daily management of the Braves Development Company team including construction, leasing, operations, marketing, special events, and all other business functions of running The Battery Atlanta in addition to Braves Security Services, Braves Parking Services, and Braves Health Preparedness. Jeremy is a committee chair of the Braves Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council, and sits on the Cobb Chamber Board of Directors, SelectCobb Board of Directors, and Cobb Transportation & Mobility Committee. Prior to joining the Braves in 2015, Strife spent nine years with S&P 100 company, Simon Property Group (NYSE:SPG), where he specialized in asset acquisition transitions, developments, redevelopments, and asset management with over $80M in EBITDA accountability at time of departure. He is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs Law.
